Clients We Recommend
In order to connect to our service, you will need an XMPP client. The following are the clients that we recommend, by platform. All of these clients:
- Are open source
- Support OMEMO
We will also try to provide setup instructions where this is not immediately clear. Please let a community organizer know if you'd like further elaboration.
Android
We recommend Conversations. You can get it from F-Droid, and set up is pretty straightforward. You will have OMEMO support out of the box, as long as you click the 'lock' icon at the top of the conversation window (which is toggled to 'off' by default). Conversations is also available from the Play Store, but it costs money in this case.
iOS
We recommend ChatSecure, which is available from the App Store.
Linux
The client of choice is Pidgin if you want a graphical client, or Finch otherwise. You will need the lurch plugin for OMEMO, and carbons to share messages across devices. At least one distro (Arch Linux) packages these, but building them shouldn't prove a huge challenge.
macOS
We suggest using Adium, because it has easy OMEMO support with Lurch4Adium. You don't even need to build from source, as source packages of Lurch4Adium are available.
Windows
The best choice on Windows is Pidgin. You can get Windows-friendly builds of the lurch plugin here, along with setup instructions.
